The Whipper or Whip Mk II
March 2013 I started dismantling the Soul Shaker retaining only the roof structure for a future model kept in mind of a new Whip, this time using an open plan instead of an enclosed one as in my previous model, so that I can offer a better view of the model.
I cut the base made of plywood and sprayed it in red with black edges and fitted the roof from the Soul Shaker supported by two square towers, to allow extra room I used two 3" pulleys instead of the 6" used in the former model, (that proved to be a big mistake) as after adding the rotating belt and attach a car to it did not functioned well, so I've have to redesigned the system by adding to hub disc in both side of the pulleys so that the belt won't escape, the bigger size of these larger parts made me also to dismantled both towers, one at a time replacing them with two single columns instead to allow for the extra space, after long and painful work I was having the same trouble more or less again as the pulleys been smaller did not allow the belt to move smoothly as in my original Whip. I came with the idea of inserting long bolts to the hubs outer holes so the belt was been pushed outwards and getting more rigid so the movement became much better and with further improvements starting working to my satisfaction.
First one motor attached to one side of the column engaging the rotating hub did not worked well, I replaced with the motor I built for the Kraken years earlier, and was too fast and noisy, I could not add extra reducing gears so a smaller geared motor finally fitted in an unusual way connected straight to the axle instead proved to be successful.
The roof was also attached at the back to the railings for extra support, the cars attachments so the belt is concealed all round for a better and neater look and a light inside the roof gives a very bright and clear view inside.
I hope to redesign the rotating belt with a better system perhaps in the future, this model has been loan to a film studio to be filmed with two other of my models.
