The Vortex

Latest model of a Fairground ride developed from my previous model (The Kraken), using the same base and front with some new modifications.

The rotating top is all what is new, it is larger and a more elaborated structure with the eight spinning cars being replaced by larger cars hanging down  in the rotating canopy instead of being mounted on the top, the upward/downward movement of the arms are not longer used, but the motor and driving unit inside the main hub is still in operation and can be use if needed to rotate anything built or fitted in the centre spindle.

The power unit used to rotate the Ride, was dismantled as it could not take the extra weight any longer and replaced by a side attached motor driving a large quadrant pinion in a simple and uncomplicated system that I managed to archived to my surprise, having to modified the main bridge to accommodated this unit when the bridge come down.

The eight cars are mounted freely to tilt while in motion and the speed achieved is quite fast taking in consideration the size and weight of this large model.

The entrance to the ride has also been slightly changed from the previous model swell.

Take a ride in the Vortex if you dare, and you will be blown away...

Built and developed from the Kraken in July 2008.
